Abstract
Carcinoma of the gallbladder ranks only fifth in incidence among all malignant tumors of the accessory organs of digestion, but the prognosis is extremely poor in patients with a preoperative diagnosis because of delayed diagnosis and early
metastases
to adjacent organs.
We analyzed the clinical and radiologic results of 29 patients with gallbladder cancer who had performed computed tomography from May 1987 to Oct. 1993 We noticed all patients had abnormal computed tomographic findings.
@ES The results were as follows :
@EN 1. According to the type of classification by Itai, the most common finding were type I, mass filling or replacing the gallbladder(9 cases, 31%) and type II, irregular thickening of the gallbladder wall(9 cases, 31%).
2. Among 29 cases, 12 cases showed gallbladder stones and 10 cases bile duct dilatation.
3. Clinically, 26 cases complained of right upper quadrant pain.
4. According to the biopsy, 18 cases(62.0%) were adenocarcinoma.
5. Metastases to the other organs were as follows : lymph node in 15 cases(51.7%), liver in 12 cases(41.3%) and omentum in 2 cases(6.8%).
6. Computed tomography was the method of choice in the evaluation and deciding the extent of the gallbladder carcinoma.
